LTS, MTS and LLRCs

In the government’s effort to fight the global war on terror, and the general globalization of government and commercial operations, developing language skills and capabilities is critical. TTI understands the technology, integrated solutions and support operations required to effectively meet these language acquisition needs. MTS

The Language Training System (LTS) (designed for existing facilities) and Mobile Training System (MTS) (a self-contained, portable classroom) are designed as portable, adaptable and flexible training units. Each unit provides a technically enhanced instructor platform with leading edge technologies. At the heart of the training system is a learning management system. This system is tailored to each customer, providing a centralized command center to control every facet of technology in use. The learning management platform provides the instructor with the ability to interact with students on a one-on-one basis or with an entire class.  The instructor can isolate a group of students into specialized workgroups or lock out all workstations from student access. The MTS/LTS footprint ranges from 8-32 student workstations and an instructor position to a fully customized solution that meets the mission needs.

Key components were added to the basic lab infrastructure, enhancing the instructors’ and students’ abilities to master their required objectives. The labs are primarily used for:

  • Instructor-led language training
  • Individual language maintenance
  • Mass and/or individual language Proficiency Testing
  • Class and/or individual web-based language training

The Language Learning Resource Center (LLRC) provides the Warfighter a dedicated language instruction-specific work space to help prepare for expeditionary operations. It provides service members a place to work on language learning at the appropriate pace while taking advantage of high tech language training resources. The LLRC offers 16 computer workstations running the enhanced language programs. There are currently 27 languages offered including Japanese, Chinese, Tagalog, Pashto, Russian, Korean, Urdu, and Farsi.

While the language training system provides many methods for learning a language, it also provides the service member the ability to familiarize with the cultural aspects of the language at the same time. The language training programs teach through the use of audio pronunciation, flash cards, and speech recognition and analysis.  The significant enhancement is the use of computer avatars - or computer generated characters - which show the proper hand gestures or other body movements to go along with the words spoken. This helps the student learn to be culturally correct as well as verbally correct while learning a language.
